Things To Remember When Approaching A Dog On Streets

May 8th, 2012

When you at times walk down the street you can’t help but stop and talk a good look at that cute dog that is near you. At the back of your mind you kind of thought that you want to give him a pat on the head but you just might be afraid to do so. It is simple, you just have to ask permission from the owner or ask him if the dog wont be mad if you do so. And apart from that, here are some things to remember when approaching a dog on streets.

One of the things that you should remember is to never rush up to the dog and put your hand in the dog’s face. You see, the sense of smell of a dog is very strong as it goes between 1,000 to 10,000 times more sensitive than our (human beings) sense of smell. With that said, the dog can already smell you even if you are a distance away. If you are going to stick yourself in front of a dog, chances are he will think unsure of you as it is considered as a rude human behavior to dogs.

Thinking of giving the dog a hug? I will think twice if I were you. We human beings are already accustomed with hugging as a humane way of showing affection. However in dogs they will think that you are up for a challenge and therefore they would misinterpret your gesture.

The best thing to remember when approaching a dog on the street is to say a mild “hello” and petting the dog. The dog will surely enjoy it as well as the owner. But as I have said earlier, you must ask for permission first before doing so.

The technique most people don’t know when it comes to DIY grooming is that people should start washing their dog’s face. I know you don’t like the feeling of using the soap or washcloth on your body first before using it on your face – same as with dogs. So get a washcloth and wipe the face of your dog making it clear that his fur is wet enough to shampoo or foam up. Using the same washcloth, you need to pour down a small amount of shampoo and rub it on your dog’s face to foam it up.

Remember to not get too close to the eyes when soaping your dog’s face using the washcloth. Start on the top of his head and move on the outside of the ears. Rinse the cloth after finish washing his face, ears, and top of head. You need to make sure that the soap on the cloth is watered down. Damp the cloth in the water and not to wring it. Pointing on his snout and face, start taking rhe water off the cloth. After that, white the top of his and his ears, still avoid getting the water into his eyes and ears.
