Nipping Puppies

It is perfectly normal for a brand new puppy to nip with his mouth. Usually this is just their way of interacting and is not malicious on their part. Since dogs don’t have hands per say, they use thier mouth to grab things. This should not be acceptable behaviour around people and you need to train your dog to stop doing that. When they play with other dogs it is perfectly acceptable. If you do have a new puppy, you have probably gotten them all the supplies they will need from nice dog beds like this eco nap, dog grooming supplies, to a good dog collar like this turquoise boho collar. But one of the first ways to rid your puppy of their nipping habbit is to get them some good dog toys to chew on. If they begin to nip, you can scold them, and show them their “alternative” with a toy to chew on. You can see when they are making an effort to not nip and when they do it is good to reward them with a good dog treat.

As sort of a side note, I know of a certain neighbor that lives a few houses from me that has a small dog. This dog is so small that it doesn’t pose a real threat, but is has a bad attitude towards anybody other than its owner. While she was walking her dog one day it got too close to my nephew and nipped him (it was not friendly). Ironically she names the dog Sugar. I do believe that the dog was abused by a previous owner though which expains the bad behavior. Perhaps it would be safer if she carried “Sugar” around in one of our nice dog carriers like this metro latte carrier instead. I do know that with proper training however, it isn’t too hard to train a puppy not to nip. It just takes a little patience and time.
