Neurological Problems in Dogs

Sometimes you hear of cases of neurological problems in dogs. These are problems that effect your dogs mental state. One condition is called canine cognitive dysfunction. The symptems are what you usually see in a human that develops Alzheimers disease. Your dog develops forgetfulness about things that they do on an every day basis such as familiar people, eating habbits, or bathroom habits. Some signs of this condition include: irregular sleeping patterns, forgetting familiar people, wandering about for no apparent reason, abnormal lack of showing affection, and reversal of house training habbits (dog potties indoors, and forgets to go to the door). The treatment drug for dogs is similar to what is used for Alzheimers patients in people. If your dog is showing these symptoms you can ask your Vet about Anipryl®.

One thing you can do to help bring comfort to your dog in the meantime and during treatment is make sure that their environment is as familiar as possible. If they have been using the same bed for years, it is probably not a good idea to go out and start looking at new dog beds. Make sure that their favorite zisc toy, and favorite dog treats are available. Don’t change dog collars as well unless you have to. Hopefully your dog will remember these items and retain some familiarity. At the same time, try to get your dog started on some good quality dog supplements. Hopefully your dog will be able to recover from their condition with the proper treatment and live the remainder of their years in comfort and peace.
