We human beings may have similarities with dogs, but one thing that we have that dogs do not have is that they do not have sweat glands in their skin except for some few parts (tongue, toes, and paws). One advantage of dogs for not having sweat glands is that they do not develop this really funky smell which makes us humans take a bath and use deodorant regularly. So what’s the deal with this? They do not have to take a bath as often as we do.

And when we do give our dog a bath, what happens is that these tiny glands send a message to the brain that the fat they produce to keep the coat nice and clean have been removed. And that is when the body produces these fat and grease to replenish the lost one. When you give your dog too much bath then that will make them produce grease more making their skin itchy and a perfect playground for infection and parasites. Now you know why it is important to not give your dog a bath too much.

The dogs that has the closest body temperature to us humans are those that are considered as large breed. Smaller breeds, on the other hand, have a numerous degrees higher temperature. Unless you are going to actually measure it by your own, there are a lot of individual variations that there will be knowing for sure.

So how does these facts about body temperature of dogs become important? Well, you need to know just in case your dog would experience fever – how would you know if your dog is sick and the temperature is way above his normal temp?

And how can one determine if your dog is having a high temperature? Easy, when you think your dog is on the peak of his health, then record his temperature. If you are asking to yourself if it is natural for dogs to be shy, then the answer is yes, it is natural for some dogs. It is natural for them to stay away from things and people that are new and/or strange to them. It is only during their development stage when the dog becomes close and socialized to the people they are familiar with as well as with animals, objects, and day to day scenario. But even then they will stay away from those that they are not familiar with. But do not consider this as a problem. One of the things that you should remember is to never rush up to the dog and put your hand in the dog’s face. You see, the sense of smell of a dog is very strong as it goes between 1,000 to 10,000 times more sensitive than our (human beings) sense of smell.
